Mom struggles as kids throw tantrum in Target—but then, stranger asks unexpected question

Children may be angels when they’re not throwing a tantrum. But when they do, their parents have got to devote their entire attention to comfort them, and this can be a challenge. A mom in Texas who had her hands full with two upset kids experienced this in public, but was lucky to have gotten a most-appreciated breather after a friendly stranger stepped up to the mothering plate.

Rebecca Paterson, of Pearland, mother to 2-year-old Jacob and 2-month-old Aiden, took her two children to a Target store on March 19, where they both chucked a hissy fit. A cursory trip to the store quickly went downhill when Aiden cried and Jacob followed, but louder.

“I started putting things away on the shelf,” Paterson wrote in Facebook group “Moms in Pearland, Tx (Official).”

She was preparing to leave the store when her “angel” came over.

That was Tiffany Guillory, who saw Paterson struggling and came over to help hold her toddler.

“I said go ahead and do your grocery shopping, and I’ll just hold Jacob and I’ll talk to him,” Guillory told Khou11. “I picked him up, put him in my arms, (and) I talked to him with a soothing voice.”

They walked around the store for 45 minutes whilst Paterson sought out her items. When it was time to check out, she snapped a photo of Guillory and shared it with the other moms on Facebook as a way to thank Guillory for her kindness.

“She saved me moms!!! I am so sleep deprived and was running on empty. A little kindness and understanding goes a long way,” Paterson wrote on Facebook. “I’ll definitely be paying it forward if I see a poor mom in need of a [sic] help. Thanks Tiffany, you’re an angel.”

“It really touched me,” Guillory said. “I know how it is. I’ve been there. I have two kids, it’s frustrating, and that baby is 2 months. You have hormones going … and people are looking at you crazy, and I just wanted to help. God sent me there to help her.”

Guillory hopes that the unintended publicity can inspire people to consider others who’re in need of a little helping hand.

“I’m just hoping and praying that more people can be inspired by this story to do the same thing,” she told Chron.
